Miners' Outreach Services

The passage of legislation to compensate coal miners afflicted with Coal Workers Pneumoconiosis (Black Lung)   led MCMC to develop considerable expertise in the effects of the occupational lung disease.  By 1980, a regional Black Lung Clinic was founded by the federal government and is stationed in Raton to serve New Mexico. In 1987 the Miners’ Outreach Program was created to provide an even greater service to all miners throughout the service area.  The Miners’ Outreach Program staff is dedicated to providing the highest quality of service by means of a unique medical mobile unit.  Utilizing this specialized mobile unit has enabled Miners’ Colfax Medical Center to distinguish itself as a leader in the medical profession by providing health care services beyond normal boundaries.  Federal funds allow us to provide free health screenings at various locations throughout New Mexico in this specialized mobile unit. 

The Miners’ Outreach Program of New Mexico offers in-depth screening for mining related illnesses and other conditions.  Early diagnosis and medical care often make a difference in quality of life and long-term survival.

FREE SCREENING INCLUDES:

If you are a miner either past or present for any length time or experiencing any occupational lung disease, you qualify for a free screening.
